The term “vision insurance” is commonly used to describe plans designed to reduce costs for routine preventive eye care (eye exams) and prescription eyewear (eyeglasses and contact lenses). In this vision insurance review I will discuss how plans are created equal. Some cover glasses every year, some cover glasses and contacts every year, and some only cover glasses or contacts every other year. In this article I am going to discuss common vision insurances seen at my vision clinic in Tulsa. I will discuss what they tend to cover and what they tend to not cover. As with all insurances this is all subject to change tomorrow and the vision insurance makes the rules here not me. So, how does vision insurance help?
Vision Benefits or Discount Plan
Vision insurance typically comes in the form of either a vision benefits package or a discount vision plan. These vision benefits or discount plans are not all the same and vary from employer to employer. Some insurances are very helpful and some are sadly not so helpful. When it comes to these insurance plans the insurance company dictates the prices charged for different services and products. Therefore, if you are planning to use vision insurance you want to make sure you go to a vision clinic you trust because the prices will all be very similar if not the same.
What is typically covered

In network versus not in network
Now just because we are not in network with some of the insurance plans does not mean you can’t be seen at our vision clinic or buy our glasses. It just means that you would need to fill out an out-of-network form in order to get reimbursed by your vision insurance company. If you would like more information regarding each of these vision insurances, you can click on their name. I have added links to either other blog posts I have done that discuss those insurances in more depth or I have added a link to that specific companies website. You can also stop by our BA vision clinic anytime and we can help you out in person.
